Have you ever watched someone walk up to a total stranger and effortlessly strike up a conversation while you sat in awe? What is it that gives these people the ability to meld with folks wherever they go? Is there some gene that is required at birth to be so open and conversational with strangers? Is this something that can be learned or only for a select lucky few?
Personally, I have always been somewhat reserved around strangers but outgoing around people I know. I came across a simple strategy that has helped me tremendously to get over this anxiety and I will share it with you in this article. I am also going to share away that you can apply it with people anywhere in the world and with dozens of people daily.
I Just Want You To Like Me....Please!
Many people really don't have conversations where they exchange ideas, what they do is take turns speaking their mind. What people really want is to be appreciated and remembered and sadly they rarely are. If you want to break the ice with someone you have not met before begin by complimenting them about something you like about them. Ask questions about them and when the conversation swings back to you give them a little about yourself and then focus it back on them by asking more questions.
Look I'm Important... Don't Believe Me?.... Just Ask Me
Too often people new to marketing make the focus of their conversation about themselves and their business. They are so self - indulgent at times that not only does the person not want to hear about the business they are marketing but they also don't want to even be around the marketer. It does not matter if you had a machine called an MLM Lead Generator working for you day and night if your presentation is about you then you are going to fail in your marketing efforts.

So now you have an understanding or perhaps an increased self awareness of what to focus on when you are prospecting - focus on your prospect and as Steven Covey says "seek first to understand and then to be understood." Now take this philosophy onto the Internet and watch things in your business explode (- in a good way). So how do you do that.... simple let's set up a Facebook account if you haven't got one. There are over 500 million people on Facebook and all with profiles that you can access and literally select the perfect people for your business. You literally have the Power of Big Brother working for you and best of all it is free.
You Say You Like Me But Your Staring At My Wallet
Make up a profile of yourself that does not scream shark or I do MLM and set out by making friend requests. Simply identify the people you want to meet using the search tools and you are off to the races. When I first was told about this type of prospecting I admit that I had 2 thoughts come to mind: the first was a feeling of fear - using software I had never used and in an environment I was unfamiliar with. This could be compared to going to a strange country where you don't know the language or customs. The second thought I had was - wouldn't it be faster to buy some leads or some other similar quick way to access people interested in working from home.
I Bought a VIP Pass And Now I Recruit More In My MLM
What I discovered was that simply just using the software eased my fear. I already knew for a fact that this type of prospecting is one of the best there is once you have a plan of attack so this was enough for me to push through the anxiety. I sought out a coach because I again knew that to be the best at anything requires a coach someone to mentor you past all of the mistakes the others make. If you have ever been to Universal Studios you will find that they have a VIP ticket that gets you out of the long line ups so that you spend your time on the rides while the others spend their time roasting in +100 degree sunshine. Having a coach does the same thing. You might be tempted to save a few dollars and get the cheap pass but you will pay a price that to me is far more expensive. Facebook is free, provides access to 500,000 people, gives you more information on the people you are prospecting than you know about your next door neighbor, allows you to profile specific target groups / interests. Max says that if you are not talking to 5 people a day about your business you should be and if you are not signing up one person a day using Facebook you could be. Communication in person or on sites such as Facebook, are all the same people are people - make them feel important, take an interest in who they are and what they do, have them feel you care and through this process you will uncover needs that you may be able to help them with.
